Henry celebrated his first Halloween this week! Henry, I think, was mostly confused as to why he had a banana sewed to his sleeve. Eleanor was also a bit confused, but because we kept telling her to go up to strangers, say “Trick or Treat”, and then pick out some candy. I think she enjoyed it thought, and was definitely less intimidated than last year. Eleanor said “Trick or Treat” to most of the folks, and we usually got a “ThankYou” (she says it as all one word :) ) out of her as well. Several times other kids came up to her and said “Elmo!”, but Eleanor wasn’t sure what to make of them. Most of the houses let you pick your own piece of candy out of the bowl, and more often than not Eleanor choose Almond Joys. Mom and Dad suspect that it was due to the blue wrapper, but both would have preferred Mounds instead. Eleanor also ate a piece of candy corn for the first time, and an Oreo cookie for the first time – with orange frosting no less. Her response to each was “more”.
Henry didn’t get any candy (it seemed a stretch for me to grab candy from the bowl on the pretence that it was for him) but enjoyed looking at all the other costumes. He continues to make big physical jumps each week, this week he is walking with the help of toy walkers. From the dinosaur to the stroller, he is cruising right along. However, the minute he gets stuck on a wall or other obstruction, he squawks and huffs until someone comes over and gets him on the move again. Henry also got his first haircut this week – and he was a champ about it. There was very little crying, although he did fuss a bit. Mostly he just sat and gave us a look like “Why are you making me go through this?”. He even got a little hair gel at the end to spike up his hair. I’m convinced that he said Dada on Saturday afternoon – but there weren’t any witnesses around to verify. He definitely has a “La” and a “Ba” sound that he likes to pull out.
