Eleanor turned eight months this week while in Aspen. Unfortunately, this means that the monthly family picture with Zapa will have to be delayed a few days (as Zapa doesn’t fly). Now that she is eight months old, Eleanor is doing a lot of new things. So many, in fact, that it was a bit hard to keep track of them all this week – so I made a little list below. Most significant is probably the first forward motion while “army” crawling – however Uncle B is the only witness to this event, so it is under dispute with Mama. Either way, Eleanor is definitely making progress towards a full fledged crawl. She definitely makes progress via multiple roll overs and “scoots”, inches backwards while on her tummy, and even lifts off the ground while on her back in a “crab walk” like motion. I’m pretty sure that she will figure out how to use her knees for propulsion very soon. Also very exciting are some new syllables that Eleanor can say, Da-Da-Da and Ga-Ga-Ga. She is so good at Da-Da now that all I have to do is say it once and she will repeat it back to me. I tried to convice Amy that this was her first word (Dada) but I was vetoed. Apparently it isn’t clear that Eleanor actually means Dada when she says Da-Da-Da. A fair point, and one that I successfully used when Eleanor used to say Uuummmmmaaaa Uummmmaaaa when she was a few months old. It sounded a lot like Mama, but both Amy and I agreed that it didn’t mean Mama, especially since Eleanor mostly said it while she was upset.
Arguments aside, we had a great week with lost of visitors and fun. Auntie Susan and Uncle Gabe came out to join us, along with Mackenzie, Jack and Ben. It was the first time to Aspen for Jack and Ben – and the first time skiing for all of them. It was also the first time that Gabe was allowed to ski with Brian and I since “The Crash” of 2003. Boy I wish I had that on video. Grandma and Grandpa also joined the trip for the first time, and got to spend some fun time with Eleanor.
Eleanor also had a chance to meet up with Aunt Jane and Cousin Adam – where she met a pair of friendly goats and Adam’s pup Thor. Fortunately, only one of those three greeted her with a lick of the hand :) .
