Henry and Eleanor had a blast this week visiting Aspen. Henry was skeptical about heading outside in his snowsuit, which hampered his walking a bit, but ended up really liking stomping in the snow and watching Dad shoot baskets. He also really enjoyed Uncle B’s guitar playing, every time that he saw the guitar he starting pointing and grunting until Uncle B starting playing a song. He wasn’t as much of a fan of Uncle B’s Cookie Monster costume – but Eleanor loved it and asked for it at least once a day. Both kiddos really liked riding the gondola to the top of the mountain, and playing with their cousins at the park and at cousin Adam’s house. Henry was more interested in Adam’s dogs, while Eleanor was more excited about his kite, but the highlight for both was sitting on the motorcycles in the garage. It was the first time meeting little cousin Kathleen who gave us some great smiles.
Eleanor had a great time exploring our rental house, especially all of the different bathrooms where she could give Monkey a bath. She also took a ski lesson, which was a bit of a challenge. There was definitely some sadness when Mom and Dad left and she went to get her skis and helmet. The outfitting and basics took so long that she only got one run down the hill, but she did very well on that run. Her instructor complimented her balance, and at one point she kicked herself free and was headed down the hill all by herself. I think that scared her a bit though, so the instructor held her had for the rest of the way down. Prior to the lesson Eleanor had been very excited about learning – I asked her afterwards if she had fun and she said, “Ummm, no”. I asked her if she wanted to do it again and she said, “No, just the one time”. :( Maybe next year. She absolutely loved the gondola, and the bouncy house on closing day.
