Eleanor and Henry celebrated Eleanor’s birthday this week with lots of cupcakes! Cupcakes at the park with friends, cupcakes at school, and cupcakes for dinner on her actual birthday. We started the day with a fun birthday trip to Whole Foods with Lala for breakfast. Then, at school, they made a happy birthday sign for Eleanor, and then Mom and Henry came at lunchtime to join in the cupcake celebration. We finished the day with presents and cupcakes with Uncle B. What a fun birthday! Aunt Ann stole the present opening show with her oversized card that featured a cat “meowing” the tune to happy birthday. Eleanor must have played the song 10 times, and each time Henry looked around for Zapatita and then started making his own cat noises.
Eleanor was very into rompers this week – she wanted to wear two of them almost every day, which led to a few “conversations” as we got ready to head out. On Saturday she ended up in full rain gear (including an umbrella) headed to the park (it was a beautiful day, no clouds in sight) as part of a compromise to get her to take off two rompers and one pair of pants (which left her with a dress). She also started smiling when we take a picture of her – just in time for some birthday shots. She will now look at the camera and say “Chez” or similar cheese like sounding word. Now, if we can just get Henry to cooperate we will really get some great family shots! Oh yeah, Eleanor and Henry had their first chocolate covered strawberries this week – inspired by a Dora book that Eleanor loves. Henry stuffed the whole thing in his mouth in one shot, and Eleanor loved taking small bites and getting chocolate all over her hands. She also passed the “marshmallow” test by saving half of it for the next day.
On Sunday we went to a park with a water section, and Henry loved it. He spent the entire time filling up buckets and dumping them back out, and then got to use a Blackhawks rally towel to dry off because we forgot to bring any actual towels with us.
