Skiing!

Henry and Eleanor had a fantastic trip out to Aspen for some skiing. Both Henry and Eleanor took lessons, and they both liked it enough the first day to ask to go back again. Henry was mostly getting used to standing and balancing on the skis, and Eleanor was starting to learn the famous “pizza pie” wedge to start turning and slowing down. I wouldn’t say they mastered it, but I’m encouraged that they liked it enough to try again. Henry likes to tell the story of when he “fell down in the snow” and when the “magic tunnel stopped”. Eleanor will tell you that her favorite part was eating goldfish during break :)

The trip started with packing at home, and both Eleanor and Henry wanted to help. Eleanor emptied the suitcase that Mama had started to fill and then stuffed it with her own choice of items that she wanted to bring. Henry saw this and then brought over a collection of friends that he wanted to take along too. Both kids were great during the actual travel, we didn’t have any meltdowns and generally enjoyed the travel day. We had a fun visit with cousin Adam and Aunt Jane, and went out to dinner at a Mexican restaurant – both kids were big fans of the chips and quesadillas.

Henry loved the little gondolas at Snowmass and wanted to ride in all four of the different colors. We also took a trip up the big gondola on Ajax, where we took a fun family picture and met some ski patrol dogs. When we weren’t on the mountain, Eleanor loved to play rocket ship in the master closet of our rental, and Henry loved to roll the balls on the pool table back and forth.

After returning home, we spent a rainy sunday going to the Children’s museum and having a fun lunch at Smashburger – where Eleanor tried her first Oreo shake. I’m pretty sure she is hooked – this summer Dad will definitely have to share some of his Oreo Blizzards on the way home from the park :) Finally, to close out the week we had our first family taco night – the kids each got both a crunchy and a soft taco and they loved them. Mom taught them how to tilt their heads to eat the taco without everything falling out – they definitely got the tilt, but everything still fell out :) Before we ate they both said they only wanted a soft taco, but after the first crunch they both asked for more crunchy.
