Henry and Eleanor are getting into a summer groove. All summer each will have an “Alone Morning” with just Mom, and it is shaping up that Henry spends his riding the El Train, and Eleanor spends hers at the planetarium. This week, Henry and Mom switched from the brown line to the red line after dropping Dad off, and on the way they passed a fire house and Henry was invited in to sit in the truck! He really liked riding the red line underground.
Eleanor had a blast at the planetarium, and watched the “Big Bird and Elmo in Space” movie again. She also picked out a super cool Saturn V model from the gift store. Mom and Dad are having a blast feeding her rocket excitement and teaching her all about the space program. She can now quote Neal Armstrong saying, “Houston, Tranquility Base here, the Eagle has landed!”
Henry and Eleanor each came down with a 24 hour flu this week, of course on different days, but both bounced right back the following day. On Friday, Eleanor didn’t go to school because of her fever the night before, so she joined in on a trip to the Zoo with Henry. Henry was super excited to finally ride the yellow train – after he missed out last week.
On Sunday, Uncle B came over and we celebrated his big birthday. Eleanor and Henry were really excited about the matching rocket ship shirts that they got for him. They were both also very excited about the birthday cupcakes. Showing incredible restraint, they both sang the entire Happy Birthday and watched Uncle B blow out the candle before they started into their cupcakes. After finishing his own, Henry cleverly went over and sat on Uncle B’s lap and then finished up Uncle B’s cupcake too!
For lunch, Dad grabbed Mr. Sub for lunch for the whole family – Eleanor and Henry’s first full Mr. Sub sandwich! (They usually have a piece or two of Dad’s, but this was their first time having their own sub). Henry really got Uncle B laughing – He asked Dad for a French fry and Dad gave him “Only One”. Henry quickly ate the fry and then asked Dad for a French fry. Dad said, “Henry, you already have your one fry”, to which Henry replied, “No I don’t have one, I already ate it”. Ha! Clever boy.
