Happy 4th of July!

Eleanor and Henry celebrated the 4th with a fun visit to Michigan to see Grandma and Grandpa, Uncle Gabe, Aunt Susan, Mackenzie, Jack, Ben and Buddy. Both Eleanor and Henry had their first tube rides – Henry liked it so much that he fell asleep! He is definitely the first person I have ever known to fall asleep while tubing! We also launched a few model rockets – our final tally was: 1 stuck in a tree, two recovered from the lake (one with the help of a very friendly kayaker) and one run over by a boat. We may have to rethink our launch strategy….

Eleanor and Henry loved sharing Dairy Queen with Mom, Grandma and Uncle B, but unfortunately Eleanor wasn’t too excited about the 4th of July photos with Henry and Great Grandma. Henry gave big smiles, but Eleanor just wanted to change outfits.

We capped off the weekend vising with Mackenzie, Jack and Ben, and meeting their new puppy Buddy. Both kiddos loved Buddy, although they were a little concerned with his puppy propensity for chewing on everything in sight, including fingers and earlobes.

We decided to experiment with driving to Michigan during the day instead of at night and the results were definitive – we won’t try that again for a while! Poor Henry was upset for a good two hours that he didn’t see an airplane taking off when we passed Gary airport. He had just fallen asleep when we had to make our third potty stop in less than an hour…The drive home we stuck with night time driving and all was good. Even though both woke up for parts of the drive, they happily sang along to Katie Perry’s Roar – on repeat of course!
