Eleanor started Junior Kindergarten this week and she did great! She was a bit nervous the first day, but she settled right in and was super excited to go back each morning. All week she got herself up, dressed and came into Mom and Dad’s room announcing that she was ready to go to school – before Mom and Dad were even out of bed! The only sadness was inadvertently created by Dad – we gave her a locket with pictures in it for the first day, and apparently Dad didn’t glue them in well enough, because they fell out and got lost. All week she was very excited to tell us about what she did that day in school – what a big change from the typical “twiddle my thumbs” response we used to get when we asked about her preschool day. She also came home with a picture she drew of a monkey on a rocket ship – and the monkey had legs and arms and even fingers and eyes! It is the most detailed drawing I’ve ever seen her do. Mom got a great story on Friday afternoon – Eleanor told her they went to the gym but couldn’t run around because it was too full. Mom figured out that they had a whole school assembly, and it must have been some type of trivia game for the older students, because Eleanor said – “They had these buzzers out and people were buzzing and at first I thought, ‘What are they doing with these buzzers!’”. Ha!
Henry is also starting a new class this week, moving up to a new room at preschool. He is a bit nervous about it, and also a bit upset that he doesn’t get to go to kindergarten with Eleanor – he thinks her classroom looks like fun!
Other fun this week included going to the dentist, and starting tennis lessons.
