Visit from Grandma

A visit from Grandma capped off a fun filled week for Eleanor and Henry. Eleanor had another gymnastics class, and this time she was super excited and participated in every activity – what a difference a week makes! Eleanor is also doing great at drop off time for school, she now walks down the hallway all by herself, and after a hug and a wave she is into class. She has been making some really impressive drawings lately, on Tuesday she came home with a picture that included everyone in the family, including Zapa, and Zapa had fluffy fur and a food bowl and a water glass and a pink tongue that was eating and drinking. Quite an impressive improvement from her usual “scribble scrabble”! Unfortunately, on Wednesday she came down with a fever so she had to miss the rest of the week. The good news was that she got a few alone days with Dad as he was in charge while Mom was on vacation.

Friday Dad got to see Henry’s gymnastics class first hand, and Eleanor came along for the ride since she was home from school. Class stared with Henry as the only student, but eventually a bunch more kids arrived. Eleanor tagged along and did each exercise after the rest of the kids had moved on. At one point, she was making Monkey walk across a balance bean and then jump into the foam pit at the end, and unbeknownst to Eleanor all of the moms waiting for the older kids class were smiling and laughing at Monkey’s “lesson”. Henry really likes gymnastics class, and does great with his balance and his trampoline jumps. We finished Friday with a trip to the zoo.

On Sunday Uncle B came over and set up an awesome matchbox car track, complete with launching ramp, tunnel, jump and landing zone. Grandma arrived in time for lunch and a trip to the bookstore, and then we added puffy paint fire to the space shuttle shirts that Grandma and Grandpa had given Eleanor and Henry. When she first got it, Eleanor had declared “I don’t like it because it doesn’t have fire” – hopefully the puffy paint will rectify that, but at any rate it was a fun art project.
