Henry and Eleanor enjoyed a cold January week with lots of indoor activities. Monday was a day off, so the kiddos headed down to the Museum of Science and Industry with Grandma and Mackenzie. It seemed that the whole city of Chicago had the same idea, and the museum was packed, but everyone still had a good time. After the museum, it was time to say goodbye to Grandma and Mackenzie, and head over to swimming class. Thanks so much to Grandma and Mackenzie for a fabulous visit!
This week Henry officially joined Eleanor’s gymnastics class – Eleanor was very sweet and wanted to help him at each step. She gave him a bunch of hugs, and at one point left her position on the mat and went over and moved Henry’s legs to get him into the right position :)
Later in the week, the kids went shopping with Mom – and Eleanor was suddenly Ms. Chatty with the store clerks – answering their questions and telling them stories about Monkey. Then at another store, she engaged a little girl and had a direct conversation with her while coloring a picture. She told the girl that she was drawing the picture for her friend Hannah at school. Building on this burst of outgoingness – Mom talked to Eleanor about how she could tell Hannah at school about the picture just like she was telling the girl in the store. Sure enough, at school the next day Eleanor told Hannah about the picture, albeit in a whisper. Hopefully next week we can build on that even more!
The weekend brought a birthday party for Eleanor, and some Henry and Dad alone time. Eleanor’s party was at a candy store, and had games and dancing. Dad and Henry spent most of the time playing matchbox cars. On Sunday, the kids made their first Shrinky Dinks, I would say they were a minor hit. We also had lots of fun with Playdoh and trains.
