Eleanor and Henry have had a busy two weeks! We started with Eleanor’s first school concert – she and her classmates sang four or five songs with lots of delighted parents in the audience. Eleanor didn’t actually sing, but she smiled on stage and did the dance routine with handkerchiefs. After the concert, Eleanor’s class had their Valentine’s Day party, and exchanged valentines. Eleanor had spent two weeks getting her valentines ready, she hand made each one, and wrote both her own name and the recipient’s name on each card – Mom and Dad were very impressed. Next up was packing for vacation. Both Eleanor and Henry wanted to help Mom pack, but what really happened was an explosion on the playrug while Mom was working. Then, we were off to the airport. Henry got to ride in his new booster seat – he wasn’t sure at first, but ended up really liking it as it gave him much better visibility out the windows. Mom and Dad loved it for travel too – so much lighter and easier to install! (Ah, the things we now get excited about…..Hey Amy, this new booster seat is so light!…)
On the plane ride down, we flew right over Cape Canaveral, and could see the old Shuttle launch pads and the Vehicle Assembly Building, and the two roads that the Crawler Transporter would take to get the Shuttles to the launch pads. Mom and Dad and Uncle B were more impressed that the kiddos. Once we arrived we found wonderful warm weather and a fantastic beach. The ocean was amazingly calm, and we took advantage with some late afternoon swimming and sand castles. We wrapped up the day with a beautiful sunset and s’mores over an open fire.
The next morning Eleanor, Henry and Mom got up in time to watch the sunrise, and they would continue that tradition each morning, with Grandma joining in as well. Other highlights from the trip included yummy ice cream by the pool, Henry asking to take a “joyride” in the golf cart, Eleanor and Henry doing their first waterslides in the splash park, and keyboard jam sessions with Uncle B.
After we got home, we spent a few days relaxing at home getting back into the swing of things. On Saturday, Henry’s new mattress finally arrived, and he was so excited. He wanted to sleep in in that night, and invited Eleanor to sleep with him – it was too cute. On Sunday, I asked him where he wanted to sleep and he said, “Where ever Eleanor sleeps”, and Eleanor said, “Henry’s new bed again”.
