Hanging in the Playpen

We decided to try out the Playpen today.  The Playpen is the area in Lake Michigan just off Navy Pier that is surrounded by harbor walls and is thus very calm waters.  Powerboaters and yachts and jet skis boat over to the area and then park for the day.  It’s quite the scene.  It has always looked like fun but we’ve never taken the time to go check it out.

Weather today was forecasted to be in the 90’s with heat index

of 105, so we figured this was a perfect time to anchor in the lake and play in the water.  When we got there, there were already a ton of boats and jet skis and rafts… one yacht even had it’s own private helicopter aboard.  We knew we were in the “fancy” part of the lake!  We inflated some tubes and floated off the boat for awhile.  The weather started looking a little dicey, so we decided to head in before Amy got too paranoid and freaked out by the high waves.   All in all, the Playpen was a nice area, but too many boats and idiot powerboat drivers made Mike nervous that we were going to get run down in our tubes.  Maybe we’ll stick to further off-shore with miles between boats for more peace and tranquility.
