Tooth Fairy and Maine

Lots of excitement this week starting with Eleanor losing her first tooth. Mom helped it along the way a bit, which was nice because the next day we were leaving for Maine and it was nice to have to Tooth Fairy visit at home. Mom got a special Monkey pillow with a tooth pocket and Eleanor decided we should leave it by the window to make things easy for the Tooth Fairy. We had been reading “Little Rabbit’s Loose Tooth”, and the rabbit gets a dime from the Tooth Fairy, so when we asked Eleanor what she thought she would get, she answered “A dime”. So, not to disappoint, the Tooth Fairy came through with a gold dollar and a dime. We had to leave early in the morning for the airport, so the morning discovery was a little sleepy, but Eleanor was excited and immediately got out her wallet and tucked the coins away for safe keeping.

Our flight to Maine was cancelled, so we had lots of time to kill in the airport, and we discovered a fun playground that helped pass the time. Plus, we met a mom travelling alone from Alaska with her four sons aged 6 and under, so that put our troubles into perspective! We did have to fly into Boston instead of Portland, and then drove for four hours to Bailey Island, Maine, where our rental house was located. We finally arrived at 11pm instead of the original noon arrival time. But once we arrived in Maine, the fun began. Our rental was beautiful with a fantastic yard including a hammock which the kids loved. Eleanor and Henry both got to help Anna make breakfast, and we celebrated Mom’s birthday. On the second day, Henry was so exhausted from travel and excitement that he fell asleep in the middle of eating a french fry at lunch – napped for about 20 minutes, then woke up and immediately resumed chewing! Some of our favorite activities included making a camp fire, watching a movie on a lazy, rainy afternoon (Toy Story – both kids liked it although Eleanor was a bit scared during the mean neighbor scenes), playing soccer and hide and seek with our friends, learning Twister, setting up a full doctor’s office complete with x-ray room, and being invited to Giuliana’s dance party.
