Eleanor and Henry had a whirlwind of a travel week this week. We finished our our trip to Maine with a fun visit into town, and had a neighbor stop by with his horse. All the kids were really excited to see the horse, and Eleanor got to feed her some grass – but then the horse had to go before Henry got a turn. He was pretty bummed – so I told him we would have to plan a trip to visit cousins Kristen and Eric so we could meet their horses.
Our trip home was much less eventful than the trip out, but after just a day at home we were off again to Michigan to celebrate the 4th with Grandma and Grandpa. We started with some Lego and Barbie playing, and then went for a boat and tube ride. While Mom and the kids were riding the tube, it sort of submarined a bit, which caught everyone by surprise. Henry wouldn’t get back on, but Eleanor was willing to give it another try as long as we went slow. It was a particularly still afternoon, so we fired up the two remaining rockets and safely recovered the first one! The second one had recently become unstuck from a tree, and had a bit of a parachute malfunction and returned to the ground with a bit too much force. We wrapped up Friday by icing some Uncle Sam cupcakes.
On Saturday we went to a pool party and both kids loved swimming in the pool. They both ended up trying and loving the diving board – I think Henry would have stayed there and kept doing it all night if we would have let him. We also got some balloon animals, a monkey for Eleanor and a horse for Henry. Great Grandma and Aunt Ann came over for dinner, and then we set off some fireworks. Henry had been looking forward to fireworks since last year, and he was very impressed. Eleanor seemed like she was really enjoying them too, but at the end said that she was “disappointed” because none of they went into the air. Luckily, from her bed she could look out the window and see the nearby professional fireworks shows, and told Mom and Dad that those were what she would like for next time :) Some of the shows were quite close and loud, but Henry slept right through it all. We finished up the visit with a relaxing Sunday of bike riding, Barbies and park time.
