Happy Birthday Eleanor!

Eleanor and Henry celebrated Eleanor’s birthday this week with a fun packed day of presents, a trip to the museum, and more presents. We started the morning with a string trail of presents. The day before Eleanor had asked Mom to call Dad at work and ask him not to sleep in too late the next morning because she was worried about having to wait too long to open her presents. Ha! Eleanor ended up waking up around 6 but did a great job of playing in her room with a couple of little presents until Mom and Dad were awake and ready for the day. The best moment of the string train was when Eleanor was opening a the Frozen dress up dress with medium interest, and then the smaller size one fell out and she exclaimed “Even one for Monkey!” at which point the string trail was suspended until she could get Monkey dressed in her new outfit. Next, Mom and the kids headed out for a fun day at the Museum of Science and Industry. Eleanor requested that museum for her birthday, and particularly she wanted to see the “talking moose” – which is a favorite of hers. They also went to see an Imax file “Journey to Space” which all three of them really liked – Dad can’t wait to take the family back so he can watch it! Back at home, Lala came over and gave Eleanor and Monkey matching maxi-skirt that she had hand made – very impressive! Then we all had mac and cheese for dinner at Eleanor’s request, followed by cupcakes with Uncle B. We had a quick chat with Grandma and Grandpa and a Skype with Papa for Happy Birthday wishes as well. We closed out the day with a “Dance Show” where each person had to do a dance with a stuffed friend to a song from Frozen. Eleanor definitely had the best dance. When I was tucking her in at night, Eleanor asked, “Are there going to be any more presents?” I told her that she might get some more presents at her party for her friends in a few weeks, and she said, “oh man, that is too far away”. Ha!

We had some fabulous weather this week, so the kids got lots of park time – and even some splash park time. Saturday night the kids decided to have a sleepover in Henry’s bed – which doesn’t always end well because they have to share the same actual bed. Eleanor had decided she wanted to sleep at an angle, and Henry was sleeping normal and was telling Eleanor he didn’t have enough room. I told Eleanor to just sleep straight and she said, “I am sleeping straight, I’m just across the bed instead of down”. Clever girl! On Sunday everyone was wiped out after a big lunch and trip to the park, so we decided to relax and watch a movie while it sprinkled rain outside. Eleanor wanted “Monster’s Inc” and Henry wanted “Finding Nemo” – so we flipped a coin and ended up with Monsters. Mom and Dad were surprised that Eleanor picked that one as we told her it would be a little scary, but I think that just made her determined to watch it.

Henry was quite a good sport this week – it can be hard with your sibling is getting all the attention for her Birthday – but you could really see the difference from last year and how much better he could understand.
