Trains All Week

Henry and Eleanor had a week filled with trains. First there were a couple of trips downtown on the L – and then on Sunday we went to the Illinois Railway Museum for a ride on Thomas the Train. Both kids were pretty excited about riding on Thomas – although not always at the same time. Saturday night I asked them about it and Henry said he was excited, then Eleanor said she was excited, and when Henry heard that he said we wasn’t excited. But then in the morning, Henry said he was excited but said no last night because he just wanted to be excited on the actual day. Ha! In perfect, form, Eleanor then said she wasn’t excited. It was a bit of a drive to the museum, but it was all worth it for the fun ride. Plus, we got a bonus ride on Percy! The museum was a pretty neat place as well, and we got to see lots of old trains and go on a street car ride. Henry asked me a bunch of times when Thomas was going to talk, and I tried a few times to explain about the whistle being his voice – and then low and behold Thomas actually talked! Both Eleanor and Henry said that riding on Thomas was their favorite part of the visit.

On Friday we took a trip downtown to try the new Maggie Daly park – and found some fantastic play structures. The coolest part was a “London Bridge” replica with a giant slide out one tower. We also hit up the Bean and the fountains with the faces, which was a good thing because it was really hot out! On Saturday, we had a fun park day at Oz park and got to watch some of the Blue Angles’ show from the Air and Water Show. We also managed to squeeze in watching Finding Nemo – as we had promised from last weekend because it was Henry’s choice. Turns out Mom was right and it was a bit too scary – both kids said they liked all the other movies we have seen more than it.

Other fun items this week – Henry got a Lightning McQueen blanket that he loves – he had a big grin on his face as he tucked himself into it on the first night. Eleanor and Monkey wore their matching maxi skirts that Lala made for them for the first time – and they both loved them!
