It was a busy back to school week for Eleanor and Henry. Eleanor started her school on Monday, and Henry moved into a new “grade” on Tuesday. Both kids did great, although there was a bit of sadness for each as well. Eleanor is getting into a routine during drop off – she really likes to go onto the rug and pick a book to look through while her classmates file in. She has also had the chance to feed the classroom guinea pigs a few times. Mom and Dad haven’t gotten too many stories yet about how classes are going, but her teacher did let us know that Eleanor raised her hand and suggested “Monkey” as the classroom name by holding up and pointing to Monkey. The class will vote on their name this week – so we will see what wins.
Henry’s new teachers are very nice and he seems to be doing well in his new classroom. There is a bit of sadness because he was with his last teacher for a full year, and a couple times a week he starts in that class for the first 15 minutes or so before moving to his new one, which makes things a bit harder. His old class had also just added a box of train toys – and he was sad to leave that behind :)
The weekend brought some fun labor day activities – first Henry and Mom went to a Cubs game while Dad got to pick Eleanor up from school and get some daddy daughter time. Then, on Saturday, the whole family went up to Evanston for the Northwestern Stanford football game. It was the first football game for the kids, and a fun change to catch up with a bunch of Mom’s old grad school friends. On Sunday we had a cookout at Uncle B’s, and Eleanor and Uncle B drew the entire solar system on Uncle B’s chalkboard walls. Monday we decided to take it easy with some relaxing time at home, and we watched the movie “Planes”.
Can’t wait to see how the second week of school goes!
