Eleanor and Henry had a fun trip this week to the Bay Area to visit their cousins Saul, Alden and Simone. It was super fun to get everyone together, and also to explore some of the fun sights in the area. We arrived into San Francisco and hit up Coyte Tower and Pier 39 before heading out of town to our rental. On Saturday we went to Muir Woods to check out the giant redwoods. Henry loved the trees and the hike, Eleanor said she “didn’t prefer it”. They both did a great job doing the several mile hike without any carrying (or almost none…). Then, on Sunday, we went out to Point Reyes to see the lighthouse and the elephant seals. The lighthouse was very cool, and again the kids did the hike up and down the stairs without any carrying. We ran out of time so we had to take in the seals from a distance without getting off the shuttle bus. We then proceeded to get into a three hour traffic jam on the way home – which Henry and Eleanor handled with incredible patience. We ended up raiding a local market and eating a dinner of chips and bananas in the car as we finished the drive home. We rounded out the trip with a relaxing play day at the house and at a local park.
Earlier in the week, Henry caught a stomach bug that had him alternating feeling fantastic and getting sick. Poor guy had to travel with a bucket in his lap for a few days, and was so tired one night that he fell asleep in the chair next to his bed (where he was protesting it being bedtime, of course). Eleanor was very proud of herself this week because she learned how to cut out a heart shape. She had been asking her friends to do it for her at school a lot, because she likes to decorate them, but this week she couldn’t wait to get home and show us the one she had made all by herself.
