Eleanor and Henry celebrated St. Patrick’s Day this week by going downtown for the annual river dyeing. Henry was really excited to go again, but Eleanor wasn’t as excited. Turns out, she likes seeing the river green, but doesn’t like “all the waiting”. Fair enough. We had very nice weather for the morning, and were able to work our way up to the front row in time to see the actual dyeing. Eleanor also got to play the base drum for the Irish band that was playing nearby! This year was a little earlier than normal, so we decided to do breakfast after instead of before, which worked out nicely.
While we were downtown, Eleanor saw some people pushing giant carts full of St. Patrick’s Day trinkets for sale, and decided that she wanted to join in. She drew 8 pictures, mostly of rainbows, and then wanted to “Go out on the sidewalk and sell my art”. So, Dad took her out on the sidewalk and we gave away three pieces of art to passers by. Eleanor went up to each one and asked them if they wanted her art – at which point Dad had to explain that they were free St. Patrick’s Day pictures. It was a bit awkward for Dad, but super exciting to see Eleanor so excited about it, and talking so freely to strangers!
Henry had a couple of birthday parties this weekend, and Lala ended up taking both kids to one of them, since Mom and Dad had to go out to and event. We also got a little bit of outside time this weekend, and both Henry and Eleanor are really improving with their scooter skills. At one point, Henry was racing our 12 year old neighbor on his skateboard! Henry learned quickly that he could get a head start if he didn’t wait to say “ready set go” and then he would win!
Eleanor was very proud to tell us this week that she moved up “levels” in school with her reading books. The self reading books that she brought home this week were significantly harder than the previous ones, and although she stumbled on a few words, she is making great progress!
We also got the pictures back from our “lovie” photo shoot, and they came out really well! Enjoy!
