Eleanor and Henry were excited to host Eleanor’s class guinea pigs Brownie and Snowy this weekend. We were a bit nervous about how Zapa would feel, so we decided to do a trial weekend before committing to a full week over the summer break. So far so good. Both kids slept in sleeping bags on the floor next to the guinea pig cage, and fell asleep telling stories and singing songs to them.
We also had a few fun birthday parties this weekend, three in all, so that kept us busy. Henry was super excited to receive a Batman cape and mask in his goodie bag from one of the parties, and has been wearing it pretty much every moment since then. It was perfect timing, he had been talking about Batman all week, and on Friday had drawn his own Batman mask on his face, and Eleanor made him a cape out of paper and tape. On Sunday, we had a bit of a cold snap, so we watched Empire Strikes Back. At first, Henry didn’t want to watch and wanted to play trains instead, but he kept getting drawn back to the movie from the sounds, and eventually settled in. We fast forwarded through a few “scary” scenes, but other than that they both enjoyed it.
Also this week, Henry got some new bedding – Star Wars sheets and comforter! They are very cool, and remind dad of some sheets that Uncle B had when they were growing up. Eleanor wasn’t left out – she has some Princess Leia sheets on order, and got an R2-D2 pillow.
