Eleanor and Henry finally got to celebrate Uncle B’s birthday with our traditional cup cake feast. The kids also each filled a candy jar at the store with an amazing variety of bulk bin candy that I’m sure will keep Uncle B busy for months. We also celebrated Father’s Day early with a fun trip to a Cubs game. We made it through about 5 innings before the kiddos ran out of things to eat and got bored. Henry wanted to be interested in the game, and was really rooting for the Cubs, but just didn’t have the patience to wait and watch each pitch. Eleanor loved cheering and clapping for runs, and really wanted to sing at the 7th inning stretch, but wasn’t into much else. We celebrated actual Father’s Day with a fun bagel breakfast and some relaxing at home.
On Saturday we took the kids up to a pool and they had a blast playing in the water and using the diving board. The diving board area was strictly watched by a lifeguard, and was for divers only, so I couldn’t be waiting to catch them. I explained it to Henry, and no problem, he just jumped off and then swam right over to the ladder and was ready to go again. Eleanor needed a bit more convincing, but after a few false starts and watching Henry do it, she joined in and had a blast. We tried to explain the idea of springing off the diving board, and were treated to some hilarious experimenting with jumps and bobbles. Everything was going great until Eleanor jumped a little too well, and ended up with a belly flop. Poor thing didn’t know what hit her, and Mom had to explain the whole concept to her once Eleanor swam out.
Henry wins the comedian prize of the week with some antics at dinner. He was eating a carrot, and suddenly said, “I’m a smoking person, I’m a smoking person”. He repeated this for a while, and then finally ate the carrot and said, “HA! I ate my smoker!”. Ha indeed! I guess it’s a good thing that he doesn’t know the word for a cigarette :)
