It was back to school time for Eleanor and Henry this week. Eleanor wasn’t particularly looking forward to heading back to school, but Henry was pretty excited. He has the same kindergarten teacher that Eleanor had, so he knew what to expect. He is really looking forward to going to the same school as Eleanor, and to making some friends in his new class. All things considered, the week went well. Henry had to utilize his spare close on day #2, and while asking him about it, we found out that he had an accident on day number 1 as well, but “just let it dry”. Poor guy. Turns out there is a rule that you can’t get up to go potty during rest time, and both days he neglected to plan ahead. Days three and four were accident free, so hopefully he has that part figured out. On the down side, on day 3 he asked someone to be his friend and the other kid said “No!” and held his hand out like a stop sign. Poor Henry. He is so anxious to have friends like Eleanor does that I think he comes off a bit intense. We have told him not to ask kids to be his friend, but just to play with them instead. On Friday he found two kids who “also like super heroes”, and he reported that they are now his best friends.
Eleanor settled into her class with noticeably less stress than last year, so that is good progress. She has some friends from last year in her class again, and she is excited about having a dedicated science class this year. She reported that the week went “OK”, but when I asked her tonight what she was looking forward to this week she said, “Next weekend”. Fair enough.
