This week Henry and Eleanor traveled to Michigan to celebrate Thanksgiving. We had lots of fun hanging out with Grandma and Grandpa, and cousins Mackenzie, Jack and Ben, Auntie Susan, Uncle Gabe, Buddie, Uncle B and Aunt Breanne. This year, instead of going to the Lions game, we had our own football game in the backyard, which was a great success. Uncle B made sure that everyone was properly outfitted for the game, and the weather cooperated enough for a fun game. Henry was the referee, Eleanor sat in the press box, Grandma, Grandpa and the Aunts cheered from the sidelines, and everyone else hit the field for the game. We had a great Thanksgiving dinner at Aunt Carol and Uncle John’s house, with Great Grandma and the extended family. Eleanor really enjoyed making a turkey craft with her cousins, and both kids got a big kick out of doing “mannequin challenge” videos in the basement.
On Friday we went to the a Coney Island for lunch (YUM!) and then went to see the movie “Trolls”. There were a few scary parts, but for the most part both kids enjoyed it, definitely a big success compared to last year’s “The Last Dinosaur”. Unfortunately, the weather didn’t cooperate enough for scootering or rocket launches, but we had lots of fun playing inside. The kids were both excited play “Sorry” with the same set that Dad used as a child. I had just told them the story of how when I was a kid, one of the green pieces was broken – and neither I nor my siblings wanted to play with that color, so Grandpa was almost always green. He ended up naming that broken piece “Pee Wee”, and used to say “Poor Pee Wee” anytime that piece got sent home. Henry especially like being the green team and always tried to make “Pee Wee” his first piece home.
On Sunday we were back home and went to pick out our Christmas tree. Both kids really wanted to have Christmas trees in their rooms this year as well, so we got new little trees for each of them. While decorating the family tree, they each saved a few ornaments to put on their own trees.
