Happy Birthday Eleanor!

Eleanor had lots of visitors this week to help her celebrate her first birthday!  A great big thanks to everyone who helped make it a special occasion.  The big day started with our monthly family photo shoot, unfortunately Eleanor had taken a spill earlier, so she had a big scrape on her forehead :(  We didn’t get as many smiles as we had hoped during the photo shoot, but there were plenty of smiles to come.  Next, we headed over to Uncle B’s for some lunch and fun on the giant bean bag.  Eleanor isn’t quite old enough to play putt putt yet, but she did attempt to stuff a golf ball in her mouth.  After lunch and an unsuccessful attempt at an afternoon nap, it was time for cake and singing.  We actually forgot to sing as the cake came out – but that didn’t stop Eleanor from digging in.  The orange icing was a big hit – not as much for the chocolate cake.  She got her way through most of the icing, gave a few bites to Mom and Dad, and then we figured that was enought sugar.  After cake we opened presents – Eleanor didn’t participate too much in the unwrapping, but Mackenzie Jack and Ben stepped up with some much needed help.  The basketball hoop and bath boat were immediate favorites, but I’m sure there will be lots more favorites once we get everything unboxed.  Amazingly, after all that icing and excitement, Eleanor still managed to have a pretty good dinner, and even went to bed at a reasonable hour.

Sunday morning was filled with playtime with her new toys – especially the new slide and the basketball hoop.  You should have seen the two handed two ball dunk!  After lunch, the whole crew headed to the zoo for a fun afternoon.   Eleanor didn’t appreciate the animals much – but she did love walking around and riding on the merry-go-round.

In addition to turning 1, Eleanor had a few other firsts this week:

  • Visiting the Lincoln Park Zoo
  • Playing in a puddle of water
  • Making a basket with her basketball
  • Riding on a merry-go-round
  • Eating cake (well, mostly icing)
  • Touching ice
