Happy Memorial Day

Eleanor and Henry had a party packed weekend to celebrate Memorial Day. First, on Friday night we visited a friends house for BBQ Brisket (Eleanor and Henry stuck to hot dogs), Henry enjoyed playing with the older kids and got some good video game watching in, while Eleanor preferred to watch a movie. And then on Saturday another dinner party with pizza and cupcakes – plus lots of fun backyard (or alley) games. Henry must have spent two hours playing street hockey – he loved being the goalie, and also chasing down the loose pucks when they missed the net and headed off down the alley. Dad even got into the mix with a broom for a stick!

On Sunday, Eleanor had a sleepover with Lala, and they had a great time hanging out and doing lots of craft projects, and also sewing patches on a few of Henry’s pants. Henry and Dad had some alone time as well, with Mom out to a Neil Diamond concert. Finally, on Monday we did an afternoon cookout of our own, with Henry taking charge of the hose and washing off all of the patio furniture. He had so much fun that after the food, he continued to hose down the patio for another hour, helping Dad clean up, and giving a goodbye cleaning to the old crabby sandbox.

Earlier in the week, Henry had his big end of the year concert – the African Banquet. His class did a few songs and dances, and a drum performance, followed by lunch with traditional dishes from many of the countries that they had studied over the past month. Henry was very excited for the event, and wore his best shirt and tie, however he refused to “zip up” the tie all the way. He was very proud to show us all the work he had been doing, and especially loved that Eleanor and Lala got to come as well!
