It was an action packed start to summer vacation for Eleanor and Henry. We headed out to Annapolis on the first day of vacation for our friend Jackie’s Bat Mitzvah. We had a great time visiting our psudo-cousins and joining in the celebration. Henry even got to participate by helping to hand out candy at the end of the ceremony! Then, it was off to New York to meet up with Grandma, Grandpa, Aunt and Uncle B, and the Martins for a few days of packed sight seeing. We hit the Statue of Liberty, the Empire State Building, the 9/11 Memorial, Wall St., the Bull and Fearless Girl, the Roosevelt Island tram, Central Park, Times Square, and the Lion King musical, and some other things that I’m sure I’m forgetting at the moment. It was a lot of walking, but the kids were troopers. They both really enjoyed the Statue of Liberty and the Lion King. Eleanor particularly liked exploring in Central Park, and Henry got a kick out of all the modes of transportation (trains and subways and trams) that we were taking.
We finished off the trip by taking the overnight train home to Chicago – and both kids loved it. They immediately wanted to plan another trip travelling by overnight train, although I’m not sure the parents are quite ready to commit to that yet (those are some small rooms!).
