Henry and Eleanor packed up their bags and took a quick trip to Michigan this week to hang out with Grandma, Grandpa and the Martins. They both had a great time and accomplished a few firsts in the process. Unfortunately, neither one was able to stay up for the fireworks. For Henry, he took his first boat ride, and celebrated Mom’s birthday for the first time. He also took his first bath in a real tub – which he probably wasn’t quite ready for. He has been giggling a lot lately, and is also getting very good at staying sitting without help.
Eleanor has been on a boat before, but this was her first ski boat, and she also dipped her toes in the lake. She also had her first nap with Dad in the big bed – a bit of an accidental occurrence that we will have to make sure stays a special “Grandma’s house only” treat. She also attended her first shower, and lost her first ball into the lake. I told her that we would wait and see if a jet ski came by who we could ask to retrieve the ball for us – and I think she misunderstood my words because for the next 20 minutes she insisted that Uncle J should come over and get the ball for us. Earlier in the week, Eleanor rode in a big girl swing for the first time by herself. She isn’t quite ready to make the switch, but she definitely got the idea on how to hold on.
